On March 16, my Construction class went on a little "field trip" to learn about innovative ways of excavation and the technology they use in doing such. Below are some pictures of the different machines we were told about and interesting facts about each.
When we first got there, we were told the importance of compatability and understanding while opperating a crane. The man in the poicture is certified and showed us the patience it takes to get a move perfect.

Next, we went on over to the massive cement truck they had on display. There were some interesting facts I didn't know about the truck, like how it costs $220,000! Also, in the picture you see two meters; these meters are for reading the amount of water and other special type of fluid in the barres behind it. These keep the concrete in the back from hardening and gives it the perfect moisture.

Something you'll see SELDOMELY in your life: Professor Mills hard at work! He's helping with the crane maneuvering.

One of my personal favorites: the crane-simulator. This machine is used to train people to use any type of heavy equipment. You can lean to use a backhoe, crane, or forklift. Apparently this contraption is a located in a "$25,000" trailer as we were informed....Don't know why.

Here is the crane in action. It is lifting a 300lb collper pipe and ventatation structure onto a supporting metal structure. Even lifting this little structure, there are around 3 extra bodies active just to land the structure in its designated place. It makes you wonder how many people are needed to move multi thousand pound metal structure on top of a 5 story building.
